So, we're thinking of a wedding date (again)...thing is, we have a bit of trouble. We want to go ahead and get it overwith, and just have an informal ceremony for a commonlaw wedding on Aug 14 this year (because we're dead set on having our anniversary be the same day as our dating anniversary, but the NEXT time it falls on a Saturday is in 2021...and that's just too long to wait). We would be going and having our ceremony at the county clerk's office locally, and then having a reception/dinner elsewhere. How would we go about this? How do we tell guests (probably 25-30, only immediate friends/family) that we would not be paying for anything mealwise except the wedding cake?Any help on planning a (sort of) last minute informal ceremony and still have a beautiful, tasteful day? I did have plans for a larger wedding, but we have quite a bit on our plate at the moment, and would rather not add to it, so we're scaling down majorly. Just for info, the wedding will be in the Clear Lake/SE Houston area.
the same sort of thing happened with my husband and i. we really wanted our wedding date to be june 12, so we were going to have a 2 1/2 year long engagement. we figured this would also be good so we could save up for the wedding. a few months in, we were tired of waiting, so we just got married at the courthouse instead. our immediate families were there, and like 5 friends. it was very nice.fast forward to today... we're still going ahead with our big wedding. it's been almost 2 years after our civil marriage, but all of our friends and family are very excited about the wedding.it's a little strange, but if you can get over that it might be an option for you. just get married now at the courthouse, and have the big wedding later when you can better afford it.
